A group of people have to believe in the idea and have to do the work to take it from idea to reality, and generally you have to rely on yourself. If you believe in your idea you need to be the person that will spearhead the work and get it from idea to reality. If you can do this, and if your game is unique and different the rewards can be astonishing.

Three Possible Paths to Success

There are three possible ways to get a game made from your idea:

1. Get in touch with a heavy hitter in the game making industry and convince him or her that your game is worthwhile. He or she will then set the wheels in motion for your idea to be bought and developed. (This is highly unlikely although it has happened on rare occasions) Companies will occasionally buy video game ideas and keep them for future potential projects.

The Problem of Copyrighting Ideas

Ideas cannot be copyrighted! It sounds funny but it ’s true. You can research this on the official government copyright website. So, just having an idea means you have very little. If you draw pictures of your game and hopefully develop your idea into a game you can get copyright for those things.

Send yourself a letter!

Put together an exhaustive package of materials about your idea. Include a summary, pictures, drawings and anything else that will describe your idea then seal it in an envelope and mail it to yourself registered mail. When you receive it you sign for it but do not open it. Leave it sealed. This gives you an amount of legal protection that establishes a time line for your idea.

NDA’s (Non Disclosure Agreements)

A Non disclosure agreement is a legal contract between two parties. In this case it is between you and the person you want to reveal your idea to. It can be a useful tool that will help you protect your rights. Generally it outlines the confidentiality of your idea and prohibits the other party from using the idea. If you are serious about your idea you should do some research on NDA ’s and even speak with a lawyer about them. Outside of the United States these agreements are often referred to as Confidentiality Agreements and sometimes they are referred to as Secrecy agreements or Confidential Disclosures (CD’s).

Okay let’s get started with something solid you can do

No matter which of the three paths you want to travel down there are some things that you can do to get your idea rolling on its path toward becoming a real video game.

1. Write out a very extensive overview of the game. Make it as detailed as possible. And put this in the package you mail to yourself!

2. Draw up pictures and artwork of game scenes, characters, maps and anything else that is unique about the game. In effect you are creating a library of images in the game. Put this in your package too!

3. Write up an executive summary - This is a one or two page summary of the game idea and it outlines the things that make it unique. This is your introduction to people in the gaming industry and it is the first thing you can give them so they get a grasp of your idea (of course you would get an NDA first!).

4. Start your research into the game industry. Hang around forums where developers and game makers chat and start learning about what it takes to make a game. You can make some good contacts and there are hordes of people willing to give you solid advice and some help with your dream. gamedev.net is a great place to start

5. Start learning how to make a video game! It is totally possible for a person with average computer skills to develop a single level of a game or a portion of a game. This can be used as a calling card and example for what the game would be about.

Okay, after going through all of that I am glad to see you are still with me. But, if you are thinking all of this stuff about NDA ’s , sending letters, writing up summaries and putting together packages just seems like too much work then you can see my point about making a video game from your idea. It takes a lot of work and if you are not going to do the work why should somebody else? If you really think your idea is a great one then I recommend you find the time and the motivation to make it happen! Nothing worthwhile is ever easy and hey it is totally possible that your idea can someday be an actual game. Every game ever made first started out as just an idea.

If you have ever heard two people argue about whose video game console is the best, you already know the arguments. Some will say that their console is more powerful, has more games, or better controllers.

It is true, however, that people tend to have different ideas of just what “better” means, so it may be helpful to be more specific in your reasoning when it comes to such arguments. Since nobody knows just what “best” means, even if one console were “better” than another, how could you possibly prove it? So, using specific arguments and logical reasoning, here are three ways that the Wii is superior to the Playstation 3 and is there any point to PlayStation 3 pre order?

Firstly, the Wii is more innovative. Nintendo wanted to make something completely different from what anyone else had done, and that is exactly what they did. It’s a totally different and very much more effective control scheme in many ways.

The PS3 was Sony’s first shot at utilizing the Sixaxis controller, which does implement motion control. However, this was put in effect after the Wii was announced and it’s technology shown off. Motion-sensing my not suit some people when it comes to fighting games, simply because such games often call for a series of quick commands in a short amount of time to successfully pull off powerful combos. Simply put down the Wii remote and Nunchuk, and plug in a “Classic” controller, or even a Gamecube controller.

Lastly, the Wii is more advanced. Nintendo got tired of the race to make consoles with better, and better graphics. They stepped back for a second and realised that their competitor’s consoles were very similar to each other.

In fact, whenever either Sony or Microsoft come out with a console, the only fundamental difference between it and their last venture was that the new one has “better graphics”.

What Nintendo wanted to do was something different. Not easy, but different, and rather risky too. They wanted to focus more on control and gameplay than on graphics. Is such a move truly a “step back”?

We’d be the judge ourselves when it comes to truly experimenting with both systems. Heck, why not spend enough time playing all the way with one system and then shift to the other to see how each of them performs.

The NXE is the latest salvo in a next-gen console war that’s increasingly being won by Microsoft. But few would argue that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is a compelling buy as Christmas approaches. I guess I better start saving up for all of my buddies.

According to Engadget, the Community Games channel on NXE “allows XNA developers to distribute their games in an App Store-like environment.” Considering the runaway success of Apple’s online store for the iPhone and iPod touch, this can only be a good thing.

The redesigned interface is only a part of an aggressive strategy. As the NXE launches, Microsoft will also roll out new community games to boost the massive roster of downloadable content that’s available on Xbox Live.

Beating the PlayStation 3

Microsoft also has one of its best gaming line-ups going into the Christmas period. Fable II has already hit (and to great acclaim), while gamers are eager to get their post-apocalyptic groove on with Fallout 3 and Gears of War 2.

Crucially, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will be the cheapest console on sale this Christmas. Sony has reiterated that it won’t be dropping the price of the PS3 any time soon. While the 60GB Xbox 360 is cheaper than the Wii.

There’s a crumb of comfort for Sony. The PlayStation 3 might not be able to compete on price, but it’s still one of the best (and cheapest) Blu-ray players you can buy. Getting a Good Deal on a PS3

Have you looked in the sale papers for a PS3? I guess that enough people are still buying them that you don’t see them on sale often. It can be annoying if you only have a set amount of money to work with and it’s not quite enough to make the purchase.

I feel your pain! I have tried to justify the item in so many ways for so long. To start building a PS3 fund I thought I would begin by selling my old PS2 games. I’ve even thought about my old jeans in the closet, the ones with holes in them and seem all fashionable and seeing what I could sell them for on eBay. I’ve even gone through my garage looking for tools that I don’t use to sell them online. We even had a yard sale so I could try to earn enough money to buy the PS3. It was hard to justify the time spent after I counted my till and it came up to just over $50. As an aside, garage sales are not the way to go! You’ll make much more money selling your stuff on eBay.

I’ve been there before. The PS3 has so much to offer in compared to other gaming consoles. I was sold when I found it was Blu-Ray. I could not only play HD games on it but I could now watch all my movies in HD as well. Good luck getting that point past the wife! Once we went to HD with DirecTV, including the DVR, my wife was convinced and we hardly watch anything that is not in HD. At the end of the day it turned out to be easy to persuade her to get the PS3 on every front except the price.

I’ve been digging around for a while and I’ve discovered that to get the best price on the best game system that plays Blu-Ray you can’t get a better value than with a PS3. Even when it’s not on sale! The average Blu-Ray player will cost you $200-$250 but it doesn’t play games. The new XBOX does play games in HD and movies as well but it uses the not-chosen HD DVD format. Still, the challenge is getting a PS3 at a discount if at all possible.

I searched on eBay and some other traditional auction sites and found that there really aren’t any ps3 sale prices out there. You have to spend more than you normally would and get a “bundle” to really get the value. It just doesn’t add up when I’m trying to save money, not spend more.

Ultimately, I had to think outside the box. I started investigating unique bid auction sites. There are a few decent ones out there but the one that stands out to me is www.auctions4acause.com. They have much more selection among everyday items than most of the other sites including the PS3. Most other sites focus on really high-dollar items like cars, boats, houses and land. You can pretty it up all you want but I just want the PS3!

After I found that site I know it was exactly what I needed. They had the item I wanted and it was possible for me to get it very cheap. I quickly setup an account on the site. I rung up 3 bids and knew I had the lowest and unique bid. Unfortunately, I didn’t get it the first time. It was another week before I could bid on another one. I bid 3 or 4 more times, said my prayers and waited. Bingo! I won this time. After a few days I was wrapping up the PS3 as a gift for my nephew. All told I had bid less than $59.64. Not bad, huh?

It can take a few minutes of reading to truly grasp the concept of the lowest unique bid auction style. After you grasp the idea you could become addicted.
